Today I spoke to a group of students wrapping up a summer camp run by my friend @flyingdonkeys1 and sponsored by the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals ( #obap ).
Speaking to them on Juneteenth is a special moment. It is a day that celebrates the moment people finally received the message of their own freedom, long after the fact.
For the students, I asked them to take a look at their own lives through the same lens. Society, social media, and gatekeepers will constantly try to place limits on your potential or delay the message of what you are truly capable of achieving. I reminded them not to wait for someone else to deliver the message so they can be great. You have to recognize your own power right now.
If you want to accomplish something big, you can’t wait for commission or permission, or let external noise dictate your path. You have to be willing to break the formation of the crowd around you and shatter your own sky.
