Strive To Be The Person Kids Look Up To

I found myself reflecting on the journey that has shaped me. I want to share with you some of the wisdom I’ve gathered along the way, insights that I’ve also sprinkled throughout my book, “Shatter the Sky.”

My Roots and Rise

My story begins in the Bronx, a place that instilled in me the grit and determination that would later define my life. From these humble beginnings, I learned an invaluable lesson: “Strive to be the person kids look up to.” This belief has been my guiding star, illuminating my path through various life stages, including my military time and transition to civilian life.

The Power of Being a Role Model

In a world still reeling from the effects of COVID-19, the importance of being a positive role model cannot be overstated. I’ve seen firsthand how challenging these times can be, especially for our youth. That’s why I advocate for empathy, compassion, and honesty. We must be the stable force that guides the younger generation through these turbulent times.

Learning from Mistakes and Celebrating Differences

One of my most crucial lessons is embracing our mistakes and differences. I believe in showing children that it’s okay to make mistakes and to be different. My life is a testament to the power of using one’s unique traits for good, a vital lesson for kids navigating today’s complex world.

Join Me on This Adventure

My journey has been unique. I was honored to fly the U.S. Air Force U-2 spy plane, becoming the only black woman in its 68-year history. This achievement is a personal milestone and a beacon of possibility for others. I invite you to join me on this incredible journey. Let’s all strive to be the role models that our future leaders need and deserve.
